The Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star was the first jet fighter used by the USAAF. It was also used extensively by the USAF in Korea as the F-80. It is considered to have ushered in the 'jet age' to the military and is most known for its training variant, the T-33. It first flew in 1944 with over 1500 having been built.
