Movie (1986)
Starring:
Tom Cruise (Maverick)
Kelly McGillis (Charlie)
Val Kilmer (Iceman)
Anthony Edwards (Goose)
Tom Skerritt (Viper)
When his wingman loses his nerve, Maverick gets the chance to attend the Navy's Fighter Weapons School, Top Gun. Here he meets his ultimate competition, his hero and true love but pays a tough sacrifice for it.
Also from this series:
Northrop F-5F Tiger II
Portrayed as fictional "MiG-28" fighters, these aircraft are painted in fictional gloss black paint schemes with Soviet-esque roundels on the tails. They are claimed to carry Exocet anti-ship missiles, but are only shown with AIM-9 Sidewinders.
Same aircraft in other movies at IMPDb: Frequently Seen Aircraft.
Northrop F-5E Tiger II
Grumman F-14 Tomcat
The main feature in this film is the Tomcat, the U.S. Navy's Air Superiority Fighter.
Douglas A-4 Skyhawk
Used as the 'enemy' aircraft at Top Gun.
Behind a Douglas A-4 Skyhawk (wearing on its fin the badge of the Fighter Weapons School), four F-14 Tomcats and in the distance lots of aircraft: at right in front of the hangar, two Skyhawks - at least one two-seat - and three North American T-2 Buckeyes (white and red); at left of the flag, Skyhawks melt with BAe/McDonnell Douglas Harrier IIs.
From Maverick's portfolio.
McDonnell Douglas C-9B Skytrain II
Briefly seen in the passenger transport role by the Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VR) 57. BuNo 159114.
Boeing 727-200/ADV & Lockheed L-1011-385-1-15 TriStar 100
Lockheed L-1011-385-1-15 TriStar 100 of TWA-Trans World Airlines on the far right and probably a Dassault Falcon 20 on the left.
Sikorsky HH-3F Pelican
Sikorsky HH-3F Pelican s/n 1467.
Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King and Various Aircraft
Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King flying towards the camera. At left of the command tower, a Lockheed S-3 Viking (wings folded) is in the middle of five F-14. On the right, under the helicopter's shape, three F-14 hide another Lockheed S-3 Viking. Far right, two Grumman E-2 Hawkeyes with the low sun reflecting on their dome.
BuNo 149894 SH-3A converted to SH-3H (c/n 61160). Sent to AMARC as 9H0059 on 17 December 1993.
Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King parked with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 6 (HS-6) code.
Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II
Seen lined up on CV-65 at the end.
Grumman KA-6D Intruder
The drogue is visible on the right, behind the pod on the centerline pylon.
