Lowly security guard John Brown is injured whilst pursuing the notorious Dr. Claw (in reality billionaire Sanford Scolex), who has robbed and killed Artemus Bradford, a scientist specializing in robotics. Artemus' daughter, Brenda, rebuilds Brown into the cyborg superhero "Inspector Gadget", who goes on to wipe out crime in the city and also to tangle again with Claw.
