Continental Express was the operating brand name used by a number of independently owned regional airlines providing regional jet feeder service under agreement with Continental Airlines. It was formed in 1987. Two carriers have operated using the Continental Express brand name: ExpressJet and Chautauqua Airlines. Continental Express offered service to approximately 150 destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Continental Express/ExpressJet was formed through the merger of four separate commuter airlines that were wholly owned by Continental Airlines: Provincetown-Boston Airlines, Bar Harbor Airlines, Britt Airways, and Rocky Mountain Airways. Theses companies used the Continental Express in the mid-eighties. In the past, independant regional Airlines as: Trans-Colorado Airlines, Royale Airlines, Air New Orleans, Mid-Pacific Airlines, City Express, Colgan Airways, Southern Jersey Airways, and Gull Air have operated non-jet aircraft using also the Continental Express brand name.
Continental Express has ceased operations in 2012 and renamed as United Express.
