Grumman F9F Cougar

208 a Grumman F9F-6 Cougar of VF-142 "Fighting Falcons".

Action is set on the U.S.S. Essex (CVA-9) but some footages were shot on other carrier like this one filmed on USS Oriskany (CVA-34).

North American XFJ-2 Fury

756 stands for BuNo 133756 of the XFJ-2B prototype here firing a burst with her two (starboard) 20mm guns ... a continuity error as this action is seen in place of the Grumman Cougar.

754 (BuNo 133754) is the first prototype of the North American NA-179 (or XFJ-2 Fury for the U.S. Navy) alongside the BuNo 133755 (second prototype) with a McDonnell F2H-4 Banshee in the foreground.

McDonnell F2H Banshee

A flipped footage of the McDonnell F2H-1 Banshee BuNo 122996 (delivered in 1949 or slighty before) used to show a Grumman F9F Cougar hooking the arrester wire.

McDonnell F2H-2P Banshee reconnaissance plane (Modex 25, BuNo 128875) of Composite Squadron Sixty-One (VC-61):

McDonnell F2H-3 Banshee of Composite Squadron Three (VC-3):

McDonnell F2H-2 Banshee :

Another inverted footage, this time with a McDonnell F2H-2 of VF-171, the first squadron to be equipped with Banshees. Next action shows pilots running to their aircraft of this unit through correct footage (not flipped).

Modex 109, a McDonnell F2H Banshee with an impressive tally of (at least) 60 missions -only 45 here visible-, possibly of Fighter Squadron 11 or VF-11 (blurred Grumman F9F Cougars in the background).
