Poèma o kryl’jah
Movie (1979)
Russian title: Поэма о крыльях
English title: Poem of Wings
Starring:
Vladislav Strzhelchik (A. Tupolev)
Yuri Yakovlev (I. Sikorsky)
Nikolai Annenkov (N. Zhukovsky)
Ada Rogovtseva (Yulia N. Tupolev)
During an Airshow in Paris, Igor Sikorsky and Andreï Tupolev meet together. Both are pionneers of industry aviation and Russians but their fates could be opposites as the first emigrated to America when the second worked only for the Soviets. But they have had the same goal : the conquest of the sky.
Please note that aircraft listed below are put in a loosely chronological order, not following the movie appearance. Tupolev and Sikorsky are both dead in 1972, not after 1979.
Sikorsky S-22 (replica)
A replica (now on display at the Monino Air Force Museum) is used to act several of the first design of Igor Sikorsky. They are :
Sikorsky S-21 Russky Vityaz
The replica is acting as the Sikorsky S-21 Russky Vityaz by the add-on extended nose and despite the Ilya Muromets name worn on the sides (never written on the real aircraft).
Sikorsky S-22 Ilya Muromets
The Sikorsky S-22 was mainly used by Imperial Armies but too by the provisional government as shown here (red star).
Sikorsky S-35
This two then three engine aircraft was the plane intended for a North Atlantic flight trial during summer 1926. (New-York - Paris band on the sides). The real plane -with a very different shape- crashed in flames at take off, killing two of the four crew members.
Sikorsky S-29A (replica)
The S-22 replica now with only two engines is acting as the Sikorsky S-29A in Hell's Angels (acting itself a german giant bomber).
